Job Description
The Fire Watch is responsible for monitoring work areas where hot work (welding, cutting, grinding, or other spark-producing operations) is being performed to prevent fire hazards. The Fire Watch ensures that proper fire safety procedures are followed and that all fire protection equipment is in place and ready for use. This role is critical for maintaining safety and compliance with OSHA and company fire prevention standards.
Maintain constant surveillance of hot work areas during and after operations to identify and respond to potential fire hazards.
Keep fire extinguishers, fire hoses, and other fire suppression equipment readily available and in good working order.
Immediately extinguish small fires within the scope of training and alert emergency personnel for larger incidents.
Remain in the area for the required “fire watch period” after hot work is completed (typically 30 minutes to one hour).
Report unsafe conditions or violations of fire safety procedures to supervisors immediately.
